Short explanation of insurance in regards to accidents/injuries that will require hardware.

All FWISD student athletes automatically receive a secondary accident/injury plan that is provided by the district. That plan has a schedule of benefits you can ask the athletic trainers/coaches for more information about. Generally speaking, Harris and JPS Hospitals are no balance bills, however there may be things you may get some bills for. PLEASE UNDERSTAND FWISD IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OF A BILL, EVER. You are welcome to go to Cook’s but know they are not under the no balance bill umbrella.

What do we mean by hardware, surgeries which will require plates and screws that may be required to secure broken bones. Or sutures and screws that may be needed in a knee or shoulder surgery, that is all considered hardware and in recent years has gone through the roof in regards to pricing.

If you have health insurance on top of the secondary accident plan provided by the district, if you check with the athletic trainers you MAY have to pay a partial amount for hardware and you MAY NOT depending on where you go for treatment.

If you do NOT have health insurance, even with the FWISD secondary accident plan, and hardware is required it is LIKELY you will be asked to pay up front for the hardware prior to the surgery happening.

By no means is FWISD or Trimble Tech pushing this additional policy on you however we are simply offering you this information as it may save you money down the line. There are plans that can be purchased with a one time premium per school year. This policy with the FWISD plan pending where you go for treatment will bump you back down to MAY and likely a lot less if you didn’t have a plan at all. If you have questions you can call The Brokerage Store, Inc. at (800) 366-4810.
